Local elections have been cancelled without a vote – and Rushmoor’s future may soon be decided from Basingstoke.
The Government’s reorganisation of local councils is stripping away residents’ voices. With this year’s elections already cancelled, there’s no guarantee that elections will be held in 2026 or even 2027.
Worse still, plans for a massive “North Hampshire Council” would centralise power in Basingstoke, leaving Rushmoor decisions in the hands of councillors with no local connection. That’s why Conservatives are calling for Aldershot, Farnborough and North Camp to have their own town or parish councils – to keep democracy local.
