1. Labour’s Cuts Threaten Local Services – Litter and Fly-Tipping Set to Worsen
Rushmoor Conservatives warn residents of looming cuts to street cleaning, parks, and recycling as Labour leadership prioritises wasteful projects.
Residents across Aldershot and Farnborough are already noticing the growing litter and fly-tipping blight – and things may soon get worse. Rushmoor’s Labour-led council is preparing to slash frontline environmental services as it struggles to balance the books for its new environmental contract.
Instead of tackling the issue head-on, Labour is diverting resources into pet projects like the failing “Walk This Way” scheme, while street cleaning, recycling, and park maintenance all face cuts. With inflation and the Government’s National Insurance hikes placing further pressure on council finances, Labour is refusing to back Conservative proposals to protect services by using alternative funding.

2. More Delays, Fewer Facilities: Labour’s Farnborough Leisure Centre Chaos
A shrinking project, broken promises and spiralling delays – Labour’s mishandling of the leisure centre is letting our town down.
Despite repeated promises, Labour-run Rushmoor Council has once again pushed back the delivery of the new Farnborough Leisure Centre – and it now includes fewer facilities than ever. Labour has refused to consult residents while slashing key amenities and alienating potential operators.
Gone are the cultural facilities, sports courts, and expanded library space once promised. Now, even the “Minerva Suite” – designed to support older and disabled residents – has been axed. What’s left? A heavily subsidised gym and a small pool, unlikely to offer value for money or meet community needs.
Conservatives had a fully costed plan ready for delivery over a year ago. Labour’s alternative? Delay, decline, and diminished ambition.

3. Taxpayer-Funded Gag Attempt Fails – Labour Wastes £13,000 Silencing Debate
Rushmoor Labour councillor tries – and fails – to shut down scrutiny over controversial housing plan.
When local Conservatives raised concerns about Newham Council’s plans to relocate residents to Rushmoor – straining local schools, services, and housing – Labour’s response wasn’t to engage, but to try to silence debate.
In an outrageous misuse of the council complaints system, a Labour councillor triggered an investigation that cost over £13,000 of taxpayers' money – all to pursue a baseless complaint that has now been thrown out.
While senior council officers were diverted from real priorities, residents were left footing the bill. Conservatives believe in transparency, accountability, and standing up for local services – even when Labour would rather we didn’t.
4. Union Yard Disappointment: Labour Rejects Local Shops and Community Vision
Labour backtracks on town centre revival as local businesses are frozen out of Aldershot’s regeneration.
Union Yard, once the flagship of Aldershot’s regeneration under the Conservatives, is now a shadow of what was promised. Despite finally opening after months of Labour delay, key local businesses have been refused space, and the vision for a high-quality, community-focused hub has been quietly abandoned.
Rather than boosting local enterprise, Labour’s approach risks turning Union Yard into a bland collection of chain outlets. Their failure to deliver on the Conservative blueprint for shops, housing, and civic pride is a missed opportunity for Aldershot – and local residents will feel the consequences.

5. Jobs Tax Blow: Labour’s Broken Promises Hit Local Services
Labour’s National Insurance hike leaves £115,000 hole in Rushmoor’s budget – services now at risk.
Last year, Labour promised their so-called “jobs tax” wouldn’t hurt local councils. Now, we know that’s false. The rise in employer National Insurance has left Rushmoor with a £267,000 bill – and government grants will only cover part of it.
That leaves a £115,000 shortfall, threatening local services at a time when residents are already facing increased costs and reduced support. Despite the pressure, Rushmoor’s Labour administration refuses to say what will be cut.
Rushmoor Conservatives warned this would happen – and we’ll continue fighting to protect essential services and support our community.

6. Democracy Denied: Conservatives Fight to Save Local Elections
Local elections have been cancelled without a vote – and Rushmoor’s future may soon be decided from Basingstoke.
The Government’s reorganisation of local councils is stripping away residents’ voices. With this year’s elections already cancelled, there’s no guarantee that elections will be held in 2026 or even 2027.
Worse still, plans for a massive “North Hampshire Council” would centralise power in Basingstoke, leaving Rushmoor decisions in the hands of councillors with no local connection. That’s why Conservatives are calling for Aldershot, Farnborough, and North Camp to have their own town or parish councils – to keep democracy local.

7. Back Our Businesses: Conservatives Call for Urgent Local Support
Red tape, tax hikes and high energy bills are hitting local businesses – and Labour just laughs.
Rushmoor’s small businesses are being squeezed like never before. From soaring energy costs to new employment taxes and added bureaucracy, local traders are under intense pressure. Conservatives have called for the creation of a local business forum and more council engagement – but Labour councillors have dismissed our proposals and mocked us for standing up for business.
We make no apology for being the party of business. We’ll keep fighting to support the shops, pubs, services, and start-ups that keep our communities alive. Business owners – get in touch, and let us help.
