Sir Gerald Howarth welcomes 19.5% fall in Aldershot unemployment

Sir Gerald Howarth MP welcomes the news that unemployment in Aldershot and Farnborough has continued to fall in September, an encouraging sign that the economy is recovering.  The number of unemployed claimants in Aldershot was 313 lower than in September 2012, a fall of 19.5%. This is a 2.2% rate of the economically active population aged 16-64.

Unemployment has also fallen nationally, down 18,000 this quarter.  Employment is also at its highest levels since records began, with nearly 30 million people now in work.

Sir Gerald welcomed these figures saying: “it is encouraging that unemployment is falling across the country.  I am particularly pleased that unemployment in Aldershot continues to drop and specifically youth joblessness which has fallen from 445 to 350 since the start of the year.”

“This is a sure sign that we are tackling the £156 billion deficit left by the last Labour Government and turning our economy around.  The Private Sector is vital for continuing this recovery and I am pleased that the Government is continuing its support for Business and Enterprise”

Aldershot is in the lowest 150 constituencies in the UK for unemployment.
