Sir Gerald welcomes decision of Eric Pickles MP on Tumbledown Dick Pub

Sir Gerald Howarth welcomes the decision by Eric Pickles MP, Secretary of State for Communitites and Local Government, not to call in the decision by Rushmoor Borough Council on the Tumbledown Dick.  He is quite right that this is a local matter to be decided locally.  His reasons for not seeking to second – guess Rushmoor are:

"...the proposals do not:  involve a conflict with national policies on important matters; have significant long term impact on economic growth and meeting housing needs across a wider are than a single local authority; have significant effects beyond their immediate locality; give rise to substantial cross boundary or national controversy; raise significant architecturak abd urban design issues; or involve the interests of national security or foreign Governments.  Nor does he consider that there is any other sufficient reason to call the application in for his own determination.  Therefore decided that the application should be decided at local level.”
